Online play

Playing online

What is shared with other players, what is yours alone, and how the online world differs from classic.

Everyone plays their own save, but you share one world and can see and talk to each other anywhere.

Yours alone

  • Privateer’s Hold, where every character begins.
  • Your UI, with chat, friends, party and trading in their own panels.
  • Most mods.

Shared with everyone

  • Dungeons and buildings. Enemies, doors, levers and every chest, shelf or cupboard someone has opened are the same for everyone, and they stay that way. If a dungeon looks picked clean, someone got there first.
  • Who is around in towns and the wilds. What one player meets, everyone nearby sees and can fight, and those monsters can hurt you too.
  • The world’s clock. See Resting and time.
  • A few mods are the room’s, not yours: ones that change the ground, monsters, loot, or the rules everyone plays by. The Mods page marks them.

Fighting other players

Outside the Wrothgarian Mountains, player fights happen only by agreement, in duels and in the arena. See PvP and the Wild Zone.
