Trade and crafting

Crafting and professions

The ten online professions: ranks, tiers, XP, specialisations, and where to look up every recipe.

Professions exist online only. The classic game has no crafting skill; online adds ten tracks that you level by gathering and making things. Each track is separate from your class skills.

The ten tracks

Five gather: Mining, Logging, Herbalism, Hunting and Fishing. Five craft: Smithing, Building, Outfitting, Provisioning and Enchanting. Several crafts split into disciplines (Smithing includes Jewelcrafting, Building includes Carpentry and Masonry, Provisioning includes Alchemy and Cooking). See every profession.

Ranks, XP and tiers

A track runs from rank 0 to 100. The names start at these ranks: Novice 0, Apprentice 25, Journeyman 50, Expert 75, Master 100.

The XP a track holds at rank n is 10 × n². That makes Apprentice 6,250 XP, Journeyman 25,000, Expert 56,250 and Master 100,000.

Material tiers open at ranks 0, 10, 25, 40, 55, 70 and 90, so there are seven tiers. A rank can only work a node or recipe whose tier it has opened.

Where the XP comes from

  • A harvest gives 15 × the node’s tier, plus half again for a clean act.
  • A node more than two tiers below your top tier gives only a quarter of that.
  • A court writ gives twice its pay in Marks to the profession that gathers its material.

Specialisations

At rank 50 and again at 100 each profession offers a choice of specialisation. See all of them. Changing your mind burns 1,000 Marks, and the new one takes effect 7 days later; the old one stands until then.

The game also states a crafter’s limit of two crafts above Journeyman.

Recipes

Every crafting recipe, with its inputs and the rank it needs, is in the recipe database. The materials they use, and which recipes use each, are in crafting materials. Garments and metal weapons come in one recipe per material, so filter by profession first.
